Adventures in Lunch

I ran into Miss “Icantcook” again. My lunch was later than usual because of a meeting, so I got to see what she eats.

What do you have for lunch today?

Salad, what are you having?

Lean Cuisine Panini, (watches as I pull containers out of my lunch bag) what kind of salad?

Mixed spring greens with salmon, strawberries, avocado, pecans and a balsamic vingerette. (Assembled as we were talking)

Did you make all that?

No, I bought all the parts and put it together.

I wish I could do that.

Um, it’s not cooking. Other than the salmon and I did that in the microwave.

I still couldn’t do that. It’s cooking.

????????????????????? (her lunch was ready and I escaped)

 

As near as I can tell, she’s totally convinced herself that she cannot cook and is incapable of learning how to cook.

Uh. What?

Yet those paninis that require you assemble a cooking platform, and then spend a couple of minutes chasing down all the topping bits that fall off the panini when you open the packaging ... then when it comes out you repeat the "replace stuff that fell off when it was touched" and carefully fold it over ...

That's somehow more work than opening a bag of greens and a box of strawberries and pouring vinagerette over it?

Ouch.

She doesn't want to do the work, and claiming it's hard is her way of getting out of it (and garnishes sympathy, besides).

Never tried a frozen panini. My salad was much easier and probably cheaper.
She not going to get sympathy from me. Contempt but not sympathy.
